Of course, new parents are thrilled when they finally get to meet their tiny baby they’ve been anxiously waiting nine months for…but there is another couple who also anxiously awaits that new one’s arrival…Grandma and Grandpa. Then multiply that excitement by three sons, and there is a whole lot of anticipation and joy going on in this family!
With children flung in various parts of the U.S. and the world, it’s not easy to get everyone together at the same time – but I caught up with this sweet family at their gorgeous property in San Antonio, TX, and we made some magic happen! Since they booked my multi-family Storybook Session option, they got to keep every single image – the looking-at-the-camera shot that will be prominently displayed above the mantle, along with all of the other little details that make each grandchild unique – the smirk from the baby girl, the coy grin of the preschooler, and of course the laughing smiles of the newest grandson. Their image box and album will provide years of enjoyment, along with their custom wall gallery that will soon be making an appearance in their living room. (And didn’t they do a great job of styling their outfits?)
Check out their fabulous session, and don’t forget to use the Contact page to check with me about making some magic for YOUR family!
April hath put a spirit of youth in everything.” -William Shakespeare
Every year, the magical transformation that unfolds in my backyard during the last two weeks of March is indeed a balm for the soul. The grass, which has languished, brown and dormant, is suddenly awakening with the deep, emerald green of new growth. Our azaleas, those ubiquitous Southern blooms, have burst forth from their buds, releasing their secreted potential into brilliant displays of white and pink. And who can forget the trumpet lily bulbs? They are still hidden away beneath the crumbly earth, but will soon be pushing their way skyward, reaching for the sun’s sparkle, scarlet and proud.
Each season brings its own gifts, and the beauty of renewal is always my favorite of spring’s calling cards. The metamorphosis of my backyard view inspires me to open my eyes and see, really see what’s around me. Like the fact that my daughter’s 6-year molar is now fully ascended in the back of her mouth (I’ll spare you the photo!). My son, lean and bemoaning his shorter stature, has almost grown out of his fall jeans. It’s time to capture them again, right now, in the midst of their own transformations, wiggly and giggly and pure, showcasing the exuberance of a childhood that is fully “in bloom” and all too quickly lost.
If you want to celebrate the awakening of spring with some gorgeous portraits of your most precious people, I’d love for you to join me for my “In Bloom” Limited Edition sessions, May 7-9. I’ll have a perfectly darling, natural light studio set (northwest Houston, TX) for morning and afternoon sessions – perfect for babies through elementary-age kiddos.
The late afternoon/evening sessions will be held at a lush arboretum in north Houston. Moms, it’s a perfect opportunity to be photographed with your kids, or surprise Grandma with a Mother’s Day gift she will always treasure – a photo shoot with her grandbabies!
The “In Bloom” Limited Edition session packages start at just $149 plus tax – and they ALL come with a credit to use toward additional purchases! Jump over here to check out the four exclusive packages. Then head here to make your reservation and pay your package fee. Payment plans are available for the top two packages – just ask!
Pssst…the Image Box is a client favorite. Usually only available in a 5×7 size with my all-inclusive Storybook Session, it’s my best package deal for In Bloom at a GREAT price!
Spaces are limited, and everyone who reserves by Wednesday, April 15 (to give you a little boost to your Tax Day!) will receive a FREE surprise gift with your session package. You’re gonna want it, I promise! Here are those links again:
See you soon!
At 18 months in the making, this shoot has to be a record for me. Originally scheduled as an engagement shoot, we rescheduled for after the wedding for various reasons. Then I got the fabulous request to postpone it again…for a NEWBORN session! To make things even more special, we held the shoot while two of the grandparents were visiting from Great Britain, and the local grandmother got to be in on the party, too.
Happy BIRTHday, sweet Libby!
A family begins as two…then becomes three…and is now four. With the first baby, it’s not knowing what in the heck you’re doing, worrying over every tremble and regurgitated meal (is it reflux? The flu? There’s just SO. MUCH. SPIT UP!) With the second one, it’s more about “Honey, please don’t step on the baby’s head” as your toddler tears through the room, and you learn to scatter burp cloths around the ENTIRE house from day 1.
I think there’s no greater honor than to be invited back to photograph a family for the second, third or fourth time. This was our third session together and the second newborn shoot, and I can’t wait to continue documenting the growth of these two bundles of sweetness. (Check out the first newborn shoot here.)
Oh, and I have to take a second to brag on this doll’s grandma…she sewed ALL of the linens for the nursery…even the sheets!!! I think I need to hire her for my house!
August in Houston…some might say it’s a bit warm outside. (Others will be truthful and say it’s as scorching as an insulated room filled with 100 ovens baking cupcakes.) But with these last weeks of summery weather also comes in-CREDIBLE light. I give you Exhibit A, from last night’s family session:
I’d like to make our sweltering August just a bit more bearable for you…so here’s the What’s Hot in August special:
Schedule your Classic or Storybook session in August and receive a free pack of custom-designed holiday cards ($75 value). (Don’t know the difference between a Classic and Storybook session? Check out my Family & Kids Portrait Magazine to find out which session type is right for you.) These are not your run-of-the-mill cards. The design and colors are chosen especially for your family’s aesthetic and images from your session, and the paper stock is thick, creamy and oh-so-luxurious.
AND, when your order totals $950 or more (pre-tax), you’ll also get a FREE 4×8 accordion book ($149 value) featuring an assortment of images from your session. (It makes a great stocking stuffer for grandparents.)
Pretty sweet deal, right? But if that’s not enough, the first three people to book their August sessions will also receive a $100 studio credit toward your order. That’s your reward for reading all the way to the end. So use that contact button just below and let’s get your session on the calendar!
There is something incredibly monumental about being a part of a couple’s journey to parenthood. While they have only spent a few hours with me during our sessions, I’ve spent many more hours “with them” at the computer retouching images – staring at the sweet baby ears, fingers and folds, enjoying the expressions of pure joy on mom and dad’s faces as they delight in their new little one. When we got together for the ordering session I felt like we were old friends. 🙂 Being able to document a family’s transition from couple to parenthood with photographs is truly one of life’s blessings.
You two are going to do great at this parenting thing.

I love Thanksgiving. I love the spirit of gratitude, the moment to pause and reflect on all the blessings of this life. Relatively free from the commercial trappings and gift-giving requirements of most “holidays”, Thanksgiving remains a day of sharing a meal with those you love most, perhaps serving someone else, and taking time to practice gratitude.
In that spirit, I am so incredibly grateful for YOU – clients, future clients, and Facebook fans, from Houston, Cypress, Tomball and beyond, who have supported me with your business, your calls and emails, and your comments. Your support has resulted in healthy growth for my little business this year, which in turn is leading to some VERY exciting things for 2013 (more on that later!). So to say “thank you”, I’m offering a Grateful Gift Certificate Event, starting now! Here are the details:
- On Thursday and Friday, Nov. 22 and 23, your entire gift certificate purchase is DOUBLED (so you buy a certificate for $500, you receive a card in the amount of $1,000), up to a $500 transaction amount.

- On Sunday, Nov. 25, you receive 25% of your transaction amount as a bonus credit (up to $500 transaction amount).

It made my heart happy when his mama booked his newborn session – I had such a great time with his two older sisters about a year ago, I couldn’t wait to help them welcome their new addition. Mom wasn’t sure exactly what kinds of shots she wanted, so I did a bit of both posed shots (dad is a big baseball fan and former player) as well as some lifestyle candids. It’s hard for me to decide which style I prefer – I love both kinds of photography (although I’ll admit it is easier to focus on either one or the other), and I adore every one of these images. So they now are three for three – three gorgeous little ones that are sure to bring them lots of joy!
And my personal fave from the session:
Can’t wait to watch this little guy grow up!
I am so terribly delinquent in blogging my clients’ sessions. (In fact, her newborn session fell right in the middle of the holiday rush last year, so I KNOW it didn’t get blogged.) So if you are a client reading this, please know that I have a plan for getting all of my lagging sessions up on the blog! 🙂 I think part of my procrastination delay in blogging these is my desire to include something personal about each client. Sorry, but “The X family was so fun to work with! I can’t believe how much the kids have grown!” blog post doesn’t cut it for me.
I introduced a baby’s first year plan earlier this year (no, there is no blog post about it, see I’m terrible), and this is my first little baby planner! I am giddy at the thought of watching these tiny babies grow up before my eyes (I know the first year can crawl by for many parents, but I absolutely adore every stage of the first year – yes, even the I’m-so-sleep-deprived-I-could-die stage). These moments – pushing up, grabbing the feet (my personal fave), sitting up, first steps, first birthday – these are important. Important. And I am so grateful when a family entrusts me to capture them.
And my personal fave from the session:
Baby blues in the bluebonnets. Doesn’t get much better. 🙂
